About Us
Welcome to the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences. Across our many academic programs, we strive to promote critical thinking, effective writing, compelling speaking, and intellectual exploration from a variety of perspectives. Our college is comprised of nationally-recognized faculty, hard-working staff, and goal-oriented students, who are all aiming to improve themselves and the world in which they live.
Hemphill Hall
In August of 2016, the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences (CHBS) moved into its new home. The state-of-the-art space features:
- 90-seat tiered classroom
- Multiple collaborative learning spaces for student use
- Offices and research spaces for faculty and staff
- Radford's Army ROTC program
- Mock trial/moot courtroom
- Professional quality broadcast studio
- Digital video and audio editing facilities
- Forensic laboratory
- Emergency Operations Center
- Starbucks
Building Dedication
Designed by the Mosely Architects of Virginia Beach, the new 143,600-square-foot academic building houses all of the college鈥檚 academic units, as well as the Dean鈥檚 office. The CHBS building is the largest academic building on campus. Located between Muse Hall and McConnell Library, the new building features Georgian architecture facing the main campus. The Main Street side of the building has a contemporary flair. S.B. Ballard, of Virginia Beach, was the construction management firm that supervised the construction of the building.

Since it opened in 2016, 鈥淭he College of Humanities and Behavioral Science Building
has suffered from one thing, a proper name,鈥� Dean Matthew J. Smith, Ph.D., said at
the ceremony. 鈥淭oday, 福利导在线观看 completes this structure by christening it
in honor of the University鈥檚 seventh president, Dr. Brian O. Hemphill.鈥�
The naming of the CHBS Building in President Hemphill鈥檚 honor, Smith continued, 鈥渋s something we are very proud of, for we claim him as one of our own. I am proud to affiliate our college鈥檚 ongoing mission with the legacy of President Hemphill.鈥� Just before the official unveiling of two plaques, Smith said, 鈥淟et me be the first, but by no means the last, to welcome you all to Hemphill Hall.鈥�

Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning
Through training, consultation, and collaboration, 福利导在线观看鈥檚 Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning provides faculty with the pedagogical and technological expertise they need to develop or enhance innovative and engaging learning environments.
Sponsored Programs and Grants Management
福利导在线观看鈥檚 Office of Sponsored Programs and Grants Management supports faculty and staff interested in the pursuit of external funding in order to support and advance the university鈥檚 research, public service, and educational missions. The office assists with the development and processing of proposals for sponsored projects, and provides full service throughout the life of a project.
