Hurricane Helene: Mapping the Destruction of the 1,000-Year Storm
Noon to 1 p.m., Bonnie Auditorium

• Brandon Saddler will present pictures and drone footage of the historic flood damage caused by Hurricane Helene in 2024.
• Wayne Hebb will present information on the university鈥檚 Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System. (MS4), as regulated by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
• Sara O鈥橞rien will present on the living laboratory opportunity provided by the storm damage, including her Endocrinology Lab鈥檚 research on displaced crawfish.

A lyrical tapestry of a place and people, 鈥淜ing Coal鈥� meditates on the complex history and future of the coal industry, the communities it has shaped and the myths it has created. Oscar-nominated filmmaker Elaine McMillion Sheldon reshapes the boundaries of documentary filmmaking in a spectacularly beautiful and deeply moving immersion into Central Appalachia, where coal is not just a resource but a way of life.
