V.    Course Description
                                 
                                 Students are provided with a foundation in basic pharmacological principles. Students
                                    focus on how the knowledge base and nursing process are applied to safely administer
                                    and monitor the effects of drugs in patient care across the lifespan.  
VI.    Course Objectives
                                 
                                 Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
                                 
                                 
                                    
                                    - Analyze the role of pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in patient
                                       response to drug therapy.
 
                                    
                                    - Identify mechanisms of action, indications, cautions, contraindications, dosage, route
                                       of administration, adverse effects, toxic effects, and drug interactions for the major
                                       drug classifications for safe administration.
 
                                    
                                    - Implement components of the assessment process for patients receiving drugs, including
                                       collection and analysis of subjective and objective data.
 
                                    
                                    - Formulate goals and outcome criteria for patients receiving drugs.
 
                                    
                                    - Distinguish among the various cultural, genetic, age-related, gender, and racial or
                                       ethnic factors that may influence an individual鈥檚 response to drugs.
 
                                    
                                    - Discuss appropriate teaching and learning strategies used in patient education for
                                       the safe and efficient administration of drugs, considering the patient鈥檚 cultural
