HLTH 111. Personal Health

Provides students with health-related information in order to be able to make wise
                                       health decisions related to areas such as drugs (legal and illegal), nutrition, weight
                                       control, stress management, fitness, and other personal health issues.
Note(s): This course has been approved for Core Curriculum credit in Health and Wellness.
                                    
                                    
Detailed Description of Content of the Course
The emphasis of personal health is personal responsibility. This course looks at the
                                       individual as a unique personality, as well as a member of a culture. Health knowledge
                                       and awareness, decision-making and critical thinking processes are developed through
                                       coursework.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Students will gain knowledge through lecture, class discussion and projects.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
At the end of the course, students shall be able to:
1. Analyze the contribution of healthy lifestyle behaviors to chronic disease risk.
2. Apply behavior change strategies to improve behaviors.
3. Describe common infectious diseases and identify ways to reduce risk.
4. Evaluate health information in the media

Student learning shall be assessed using one or more of the following methods:
1. Exams

4. Presentations
